On November 21, 2014, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board named the 2014 winners of its Star Award. Lee College and Goose Creek ISD were chosen for their work in the Houston Endowment funded Gulf Coast Partners Achieving Student Success (Gulf Coast PASS).
Star Awards go to organizations that have made exceptional contributions toward meeting one or more of the goals in the Texas higher education plan, Closing the Gaps by 2015.
The other winning organizations were San Antonio College/San Antonio ISD, Texas A&M University/Blinn College, and UT-El Paso.
Commissioner Paredes commented “There were many Texas programs to choose from but these four Star Award recipients represent the state’s most effective efforts for closing the education gaps that challenge our state.”
According to the Coordinating Board, 33 programs were nominated and 28 applied for this year’s Star Award program. The program began in 2001.
All Kids Alliance was proud to endorse the application of Lee College and Goose Creek ISD. All Kids Alliance is working with Lee College which announced that it will anchor a cradle-to-career collective impact effort in the Baytown area, building on its strong relationships with educators, non-profits, and businesses in the region.
