All Kids Alliance joining forces with the City of Houston and Center for Houston’s Future

All Kids Alliance is working with the City of Houston and the Center for Houston’s Future to increase completion rates for training certificates and associate’s degrees.  Our work with these organizations, as a planning partner, builds on the My Degree Counts initiative launched by the Center in 2012 with strong support from the City of Houston.

The challenge: identify and remove obstacles to college access and completion that students and young adults encounter.

The goals: to increase completion of certificates and associate’s degrees by 25% over the next three years; to increase completion of Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) submissions by 10%, noting that 90% of those who complete FAFSA applications enroll in college.

Nationally and in Houston, this work is part the Lumina Foundation’s college completion agenda, Goal 2025, and supported by the National League of Cities.

The next key event will be a September 2014 convening of Houston-area decision makers from the business, education, and non-profit sectors to organize FAFSA campaigns that will be executed over the following months, preparing high school seniors and older adults to enter college in the fall of 2015.
